Serious Sew-a-thon

Here’s what we did in two days plus one night.  No kidding.

My friend Kim came in town for our own little quilting retreat here at my house, as we typically do about once every three weeks or month, and I think we set a record (for us) regarding productivity levels.  I think there’s a reason for this.  One of our changes was shopping reduction.    We did get up early to hit our Bernina dealer.  We left the house at 6:30 am to get to the sale (35% off everything except the Bernina 800 series and Handiquilter long arms).  This was our only shop, if you can believe that.  This means we didn’t spend hours in the car driving to many of our favorite shops.  Nope.  We only went here.  The rest of the stuff we “needed,” we bought online.  Because we had to be early birds, we went to bed early, like at 11pm. This means we weren’t up sewing waaayyyy late, resulting in lots of seam ripping.  In fact, I don’t think we had to seam rip a thing.  hardly.  The other reason we were so productive is  because we ate at home.  Yes, we cooked.  Well, okay, Kim cooked while I long armed for her.  Great trade off, right?  (Shameless plug– I will long arm for food.)

Here’s the list of our accomplishments for our two day sew-a-thon:

  • Samantha’s bedding and new dress
  • pillow top pieced and quilted (for guest room)
  • quilted Figgy Pudding quilt
  • finished sock monkey quilt top, quilted it, and put machine binding on it (need to whipstitch it)
  • made binding and put it on Authentic quilt (need to whipstitch)
  • made binding and put it on Poppy quilt (still need to whipstitch)

I’ll tell you more about these items as the week progresses.  I’m headed out of town to visit Grandma for a couple of days with a bunch of quilt bindings.  (If you’re planning to rob the house, just know that my husband will be there.  Although he looks cute, he says he can be tough if he needs to be.)
