This quilt is being shipped to it’s forever home this afternoon. It was a fun t-shirt quilt to make because it was full of orange! If you aren’t from Texas, then you may not know (unless you’re a college football fan) that students from Texas A&M (Aggies) aren’t fans of The University of Texas (Longhorns). In fact, Aggies have made serious strides to eliminate orange, the school color for The University of Texas, from their lives. Hence, the maroon carrot. The distaste for all things orange was even represented in the town’s fabric stores. Neither quilt shop carried orange fabric. And this very town was where I spent my first seven years of my quilting life. Now, any chance I get to sew on orange fabric, just makes me feel a little bit naughty because Aggies, like myself, just aren’t supposed to do things like that.
But if you know me, you know I can’t follow rules.
And truthfully, I love when people love their schools, no matter what school they attend. And nothing makes me happier to have people love what I created for them.

My sister and BIL bleed maroon as well and their children would not wear anything with orange this past halloween! Talk about making it hard on this poor ol aunt to help with the costumes. LOL btw I bleed purple and carry a big axe!
That’s very funny – I didn’t realize you couldn’t get orange fabric there! Are you in College Station? A good friend of mine and her hubby are A&M grads and recently moved back to C.S.
BTW – great job on the t-shirt quilt! I’m saving my son’s camp shirts for a future quilt.
My husband and I are both A&M grads, but we don’t live in B/CS any more. We’ve been in San Antonio almost 4 years now. Good luck on that t-shirt quilt!
